Arriving by Plane to an airport in Kairo

You need a passport which is at a minimum valid for more than six months from the time of entering. You will need to pay a tourist visa (you can pay it online or when landing). Last time the price was 25 US dollar.

Kairo International Airport: This airport is connected to all international airports and airlines. It is located ca. 35 km from the Nile university. Taking a taxi from this airport to the conference location brings you through the city and takes about 1 hour. See the Google route here.

Sphinx International Airport: This airport is connected by airlines sucxh as easyJet (Berlin,Geneva,London–Luton,Milan–Malpensa), Norwegian Air (Copenhagen), Pegasus Airlines (Istanbul–Sabiha Gokcen), Wizz Air (Budapest,London-Luton, Rome–Fiumicino).  It is located ca. 20 km from the Nile university. Taking a taxi from this airport to the conference location brings you through the city and takes about 27 minutes. See the Google route here.

How to arrange your local travel

In case you travel yourself it is recommended to pre-book a taxi with a recommended travel agency. In Egypt for business visits it is usual that you book a service by a travel agency with taxis during the whole stay. The same travel agency can offer you additional travel arrangements around (before/after) the conference to e.g. visit the Grand museum, book a Nile cruise, book a tour to Alexandria and more.

The recommended travel agency is:

ASTRA Travel (astratravel.com)

Keyword: EUROSPI

Contact:

Public Transport

Do not use public transport, since this is a completely different challenge compared to Europe.

Your hotel and how to get to the conference

There will be a morning bus collecting you from three hotels which we recommend (see the accommodation page on the web site). If you select a different hotel you must arrange your travel yourself with the travel agency (see section how to arrange your local travel).

On the evening of the 8. and 9. September buses bring you to the social event and then back to the hotel, if you stay in one of the three recommended hotels.

Security Procedures at the Nile University and Hotels

To access the Nile university requires to support specific security procedures.  After you registered for onsite you must send the Nile university research office a scanned copy of the passport page. EuroSPI will forward this to the security in Nile university and access will be granted by the security staff. This passport details must be shared at least 1 month before the event. All later registrations will then participate online and not onsite.

Also your hotels usually have security staff and metal scanners at the entrance.

In general Kairo is a safe place when following the advised security procedures.

Also, when travelling a private travel assurance for the journey is recommended, since the European health system is not covering the services ( as if you go to a holiday place Hurghada, but we are in the business location of Kairo and not on holidays).
